The Guide To The Best Pregnancy Massages Around Australia In 2026

Expecting mother enjoying the ocean breeze after the Best Pregnancy Massage near the beach.

Pregnancy clearly changes everything, and sadly, you can't just walk into a spa and get a massage if you're pregnant.  You need to do your research when booking pregnancy massages or treatments. Many spas don't take clients who are less than 13 weeks pregnant, or they need to know well in advance about your pregnancy, so they can tailor their room accordingly for your comfort. Finding a qualified antenatal therapist for the best pregnancy massage is also important, as you want to feel you are in the best hands so you can truly relax.

Not sure when your baby is due? Check out our pregnancy due date calculator to get accurate timing for your pregnancy journey.

Why Are Pregnancy Massages Different To Normal Massages?

Massages during pregnancy differ to normal massages by the types of oils that are used, the technique and pressure points targeted. Not all women can lie flat on their back when pregnant either due to the vena cava vein. Some spas give you the option to sit up whilst others set the bed up with pillows so that you can lie on your side. If you're lucky a few spas have a massage table where there is a hole in the middle and you can finally lie down flat! We call this the donut bed 😉

Pregnancy Massages - Things To Remember!

Don’t assume that you can book in for everything; some treatments are only safe for after your first trimester. Do ensure that your therapist is qualified for specific pregnancy treatments; for example, some reflexology points can trigger pre-labour contractions. Make sure you maintain a safe temperature throughout your treatment, anything like a sauna that can raise your temp will be unsafe for you and your baby. And lastly, relax; this might be your last chance in a long while for a bit of you-time!

A pregnancy massage is a relaxing and nurturing therapy designed especially for mums-to-be. It uses gentle techniques to ease muscle tension, improve circulation, and relieve common pregnancy aches such as back pain or leg swelling. During the massage, you’ll be comfortably supported with pillows or cushions to keep both you and your baby safe and relaxed throughout the session.

Yes, you can safely enjoy a massage during pregnancy — many expectant mums find it helps ease stress, back pain, and muscle tension. It’s best to wait until after the first trimester and to check with your healthcare provider before booking. Always choose a therapist trained in prenatal massage, as they’ll know the right techniques and safe positions to keep both you and your baby comfortable.

Yes, it’s generally safe to have a back massage in the early stages of pregnancy, as long as it’s done carefully. Always check with your doctor first, particularly if your pregnancy is considered high-risk. Make sure your massage therapist knows you’re pregnant so they can use gentle techniques and avoid firm pressure or sensitive areas. Lying on your side instead of your stomach or back is the safest and most comfortable position.

How often you get a pregnancy massage really comes down to how your body feels and what your doctor suggests. Many expectant mums like to book a session every two to three weeks during the middle of pregnancy to stay relaxed and ease tension. As you move closer to your due date, weekly massages can be a great way to relieve back pain, reduce swelling, and help you sleep better. Just be sure to check in with your healthcare provider before setting a regular schedule.

Pregnancy massages can be a gentle way to help your body get ready for labour. They work by easing muscle tension, improving blood flow, and promoting relaxation — all of which can make the birthing process smoother. Some expectant mums also find that regular massages help them stay calm and focused as they approach delivery. It’s important, though, to see a qualified prenatal massage therapist who knows which techniques and pressure points are safe to use in the final weeks of pregnancy.
