Babymoons: Why You Should Treat Yourself To One

Babymoons Why You Should Treat Yourself To One

The impending arrival of your bub is slowly taking over your life. Wherever you go, people are asking inappropriate questions and it can make it hard to enjoy your pregnancy. That’s where a well organised babymoon seems like the best idea since Magnum in a tub.

What is a babymoon, you ask?

A babymoon is a well-deserved getaway for expecting mums and dads. Escape those well-intentioned yet repetitive questions and enjoy your final days in freedom. It’s a mini vacation that celebrates the big milestone that’s about to hit you. It’s allowing you two to sleep in until midday and to be as selfish as possible. Enjoy every second of it!

Why should you grab your partner and escape on a babymoon?

Believe us, the gravity of welcoming a tiny human into your life is enough of a reason to pack your bags. For all those first timers out there, life is going to change in a big way (but for the better):

Charge those batteries with extra sleep while you can. Sleepless nights are going to be your besties for quite some time. Make the most of lazy morning, wake without being needed for a feed and cuddle your hubby rather than bub.

Embrace life without interruptions one more time. Babies are fabulous! We love them. If you love finishing a cup of coffee while it’s hot, going to the toilet in privacy and calling your bestie without having to hang up two seconds later because your bub needs you RIGHT NOW, then parenthood is going to be an eyeopener for you.

Take that last trip without nagging from the backseat. Travelling is never going to be relaxing again. Whether you’re flying or driving on your babymoon, only looking after your belongings and simply hitting the road is soon going to be a thing of the past. Prepare to feel like you’re packing up the entire house for an overnighter and reaching for a bottle that made its way under the driver seat where nobody can reach it every 10 minutes.

Stay at fancy hotels without having to take up extra insurance covering you for accidental damages. You know that 5-star resort you’ve had on your bucket list for ages? Book it now! It will probably be another 20 years before you’ll be game enough to stay there. Messy toddlers, hyperactive boys and moody teenagers don’t go too well with fancy venues.

Focus on each other, and nobody else. Time as a couple is going to be priceless and hard to come by for quite some time. Here’s your opportunity to chat for hours, tell each other how amazing you are and do your favourite things together. This dynamic is going to change forever once bub touches down, so embrace your kid-free life that’s about to come to a sudden halt.

Here are our DOs and DON’Ts for a babymoon that ticks all the boxes:

DO

  • Take a camera and capture the magic

  • Book a maternity shoot to get both of you (and incognito bub) in front of the camera

  • Take snacks wherever you go to please those pregnancy cravings

  • Treat yourselves to a spa treatment

  • Live in the moment and let things evolve naturally

  • Surprise your partner with a special gift to make this trip unforgettable

DON’T

  • Plan excessive sightseeing adventures on foot

  • Leave the babymoon too late in your pregnancy

Get caught up on little things and argue over nothing (those pregnancy hormones can do that to you)

Now off you go and start planning your babymoon. It’ll be one of those once-in-a-lifetime trips you’ll be remembering for the rest of your lives.
