If there's one piece of baby gear your baby gets a very definite vote on, it's their bottle. You can research teat shapes, anti-colic valves and bottle materials for weeks, only for your newborn to decide they have other ideas.

That's why finding the best baby bottle isn't necessarily about finding the bottle with the most features. It's about finding the right combination of teat shape, flow, venting, material and feeding style for your baby. A newborn who is combination feeding may need something quite different from an older exclusively bottle-fed baby, while babies prone to swallowing air may benefit from an anti-colic design.

At One Fine Baby, we've tested so many bottles in person across our expos at ICC Sydney, Royal Exhibition Building Melbourne and Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, with input from leading baby brands and feedback from thousands of Australian parents.

From clever anti-colic systems and breast-like teats to silicone and glass bottles, these are the baby bottles we think are worth knowing about in 2026.

For a hands-on test before you buy, see our 2027 expo dates.

How to choose the best baby bottle

Consider the teat shape

Round, wide, symmetrical and anatomical teats all feel different in a baby's mouth, and there isn't one shape every baby will prefer. If you're combination feeding, don't assume the bottle that looks most like a breast will automatically be the one your baby accepts. Their latch and individual preference matter too.

Check the flow rate

Newborns generally begin with a slower flow, with faster-flow teats available as feeding skills develop. Age recommendations are useful guides, but watch your baby too. Milk spilling from their mouth, coughing or struggling to keep up can indicate that the flow is too fast.

Look at the anti-colic system

Many bottles use vents or valves designed to reduce the amount of air a baby swallows while feeding. If your baby is particularly windy or uncomfortable after feeds, an anti-colic design may be worth trying. Keep in mind that more elaborate venting systems can also mean more pieces to wash.

Glass, plastic or silicone?

Glass baby bottles are durable, resistant to staining and don't retain odours, but they're heavier. Plastic bottles are lightweight and convenient, particularly when you're out and about. Silicone bottles are soft, lightweight and easy for little hands to grip. The best material largely comes down to how and where you'll use the bottle.

Think about cleaning at 2am

This sounds minor until you're washing bottles several times a day. Look at how many components need to be disassembled, whether they're dishwasher-safe and how easily you can reach inside the bottle. Sometimes the simplest bottle is the one you'll end up loving most.

What makes them different?

Loved by mums and babies, the easy latch-on, breast-like teat feels closer to skin and mimics the natural flex and movement of a mum’s breast for a comfortable feed. 95% of mums reported that their baby accepted the soft silicone teat with a skin-like feel and would recommend it to others. *

The Tommee Tippee Natural Start Baby Bottles even offer different flow rates to keep up with your growing baby. Every baby is different but as a guide Tommee Tippee suggest slow flow for 0+ months, medium flow for 3+ months and fast flow for 6+ months.

Why try them?

Designed to support more comfortable feeding, this bottle features an anti-colic valve that helps reduce air intake, so babies ingest more milk and less air. The wide bottle neck and soft silicone teat encourage a natural feeding action, while the compact shape allows your baby to stay closer during feeds.

The wide-neck design also makes cleaning simple, with bottles safe for the dishwasher, microwave and steam sterilisers. Each bottle easily unscrews into three parts for thorough cleaning and sterilising, and is made from 100% BPA-free materials for added peace of mind.

Perfect for travel and busy parents, the bottle is also self-sterilising — simply add 50ml of water and microwave for three minutes. The soft silicone teat supports a natural feeding pace, helping babies feed comfortably at their own rhythm.

Real customer reviews:

"“I had used these bottles for about two and a half years, and I never had an issue with them. As my son got older he started to destroy teats, and I did notice that it was always a lot harder for him to pierce a Tommee Tippee teat over other brands.”" - Nadia P
"“We have three kids, and all three had gone from being breastfed to bottle within their first two months. All three babies took to this bottle with no issues. The bottles are easy to pull apart and clean. As well as easy to read the ml levels. Love this bottle.”" - Kimberley M

If you're looking for a glass baby bottle that feels as considered as the rest of your feeding kit, BIBS has created a very clever option. Best known for its cult-favourite dummies, the Danish brand brings the same focus on simple design and baby comfort to its Glass Baby Bottle, pairing durable borosilicate glass with a soft natural rubber latex teat and anti-colic valve.

What makes it different?

The bottle body is made from lab-grade borosilicate glass, chosen for its resistance to heat, thermal shock, scratches, stains and odours. Unlike plastic, the glass body also won't release microplastics into your baby's milk.

Then there's the teat. Made from highly flexible natural rubber latex, its round shape is designed to mimic the shape, fit and movement of the breast during feeding. It also matches BIBS' round dummy teat, which could be particularly handy if your baby already happily uses BIBS dummies.

Why try it?

We like this one for parents who want the benefits of glass without sacrificing the thoughtful little features that make feeds easier. An anti-colic valve is designed to reduce air intake and support a smooth milk flow, while the included milk lock helps minimise spills when you're out and about. There's even a foldable funnel for getting formula powder into the bottle with less mess.

The 120ml bottle comes with a slow-flow teat for newborns, with additional flow rates available as baby's feeding needs change. The interchangeable BIBS bottle system also means you can mix and match components across the collection.

The Philips Avent Anti-colic bottle is specially designed to help reduce colic, gas and feeding discomfort by keeping air away from your baby’s tummy during feeds. Designed to minimise feeding interruptions, these bottles support a smoother and more comfortable feeding experience for both babies and parents. They’re suitable for newborns onwards and are a popular choice for families looking for an easy-to-use everyday bottle.

What makes them different?

The standout feature is Philips Avent’s built-in anti-colic technology. As your baby feeds, the integrated valve in the teat flexes to allow air into the bottle instead of your baby’s tummy. This helps prevent vacuum build-up and directs air towards the back of the bottle, reducing swallowed air that can contribute to wind, reflux, colic and discomfort.

The teat is also designed with a breast-shaped shape and ribbed texture to support a secure latch and help prevent teat collapse during feeding. This allows for a more consistent milk flow and uninterrupted feeding rhythm, whether you’re combination feeding or exclusively bottle feeding.

Why try them?

If your baby experiences gas, fussiness or discomfort during or after feeds, the Philips Avent Anti-colic bottle is designed to help make feeding more comfortable. The anti-colic valve works to reduce excess air intake, while the teat design encourages a natural latch and steady milk flow.

Parents also love that the bottles are simple to clean, easy to assemble and compatible with other Philips Avent feeding products. With multiple teat flow options available as your baby grows, they’re a practical long-term option from newborn through to toddlerhood.

Real customer reviews:

"My first impression of this bottle was that is was well made with great materials and the design seemed easy hold and to use. I've never used this brand of bottle before, so I was a little nervous to see if my daughter would take to it well, and she did great! We had no issues with the contents leaking or the bottle showing wear from frequent washes in the dishwasher. Overall, a great product! No problems at all. Would definitely recommend it to a friend! I received this product for free in exchange for my honest opinion." - RC27, 5 February 2016

"Overall, I was very pleased with the Philips Avent Anti-Colic bottle. The bottle has minimal parts to clean and the wide mouth on the bottle allows for easy access. Putting the bottle together was a piece of cake and no leaks! I liked how you can use the system during the different development stages of my child. My favorite aspect of the bottle was that the flow rate was clearly labeled on the nipple (it’s so hard to find on other brand’s nipples!)." - EmilyST, 28 November 2016

"LOVE LOVE LOVE! These bottles are bigger than the ones that come with the pump. They also attach to your hand pump or the electric pump. They also come with a nipple so you can store the milk, warm it, and switch the top for a nipple so the baby can drink it straight from that same bottle!" - Catherine.D, 16 February 2021

"I really like these bottles. They've lasted me for almost a year now and I haven't had to replace them at all. They have been through dishwasher, sanitizer, and fridge and so far nothing is broken or stopped working. The same goes for the caps. They're easy to tighten without breaking your nails and way to untighten. Plus there is the benefit of beautiful yellow coloration. I love the colors they chose for these bottles. Just looking at them and handling them makes you feel better. Really recommend." - Kate.M, 25 February 2019

Real customer reviews:

"Hands down, this bottle was a game changer for my little one. At 4 months old he would not take the bottle and I had a work-related 9 day trip to take. We bought 4 other brands, including the $30 one and nothing worked. Nanobebe was our last ditch effort. He latched on like a champ and it put my mind to ease when I was away. Easy to clean. I love that the bottles are stackable, saves space in the fridge. I also love the attachment that allows me to hook it up to Medela parts for pumping. Super convenient." - mystery9801, July 17, 2018

"This bottle is amazing- my son has tried EVERY bottle (not joking close to 13 bottles) and this is the only one he has taken! We will get the medium flow nipple as the slow flow makes him mad (he is 5 months). Our baby boy swings his arms and wants to grab everything so holding is a little hard until you get him settled. But this bottle has 100 stars in our book along with the Paci’s! & I can pump into the bottle with my adapter from my Spectra!" - Haley C, August 14, 2018

Dr. Brown’s Options+ Anti-Colic Narrow Neck Bottles are designed to help reduce feeding discomfort, wind and colic in newborns and babies. Featuring the brand’s signature internal vent system and a Level 1 slow-flow teat, these bottles are created to support a more comfortable, vacuum-free feeding experience from birth.

Dr. Brown’s bottles are a long-time favourite among parents, lactation consultants and paediatricians, particularly for babies experiencing gas, reflux or colic symptoms. FAQs About Baby Bottles In Australia

What are the best baby bottles in Australia?

The best baby bottle is ultimately the one your baby feeds comfortably from. Look for an appropriate teat flow, a shape your baby accepts, easy cleaning and a bottle material that suits your routine. Features such as anti-colic vents can also be useful for some babies. There isn't evidence that one particular bottle or teat shape is best for every baby, so a little trial and error is completely normal.

What is the best bottle for a newborn?

For a newborn, we'd prioritise a smaller bottle with a slow-flow teat that's easy to clean and comfortable to hold during frequent feeds. Don't feel you need to buy a complete bottle set before your baby arrives. Babies can have surprisingly strong preferences, so starting with one or two bottles and seeing how your newborn responds can save you from owning six bottles they refuse to use.

What is the best baby bottle for breastfed babies?

There isn't one bottle proven to be best for breastfed babies. While many bottles have wide or breast-like teats designed with combination feeding in mind, your baby's individual preference and the way they're bottle-fed matter too. The Australian Breastfeeding Association recommends a slow-flow teat and paced bottle-feeding, which gives a baby greater control over the flow of milk.

Are anti-colic baby bottles worth it?

They can be worth trying if your baby tends to swallow a lot of air during feeds. Anti-colic bottles generally use vents or valves designed to manage airflow through the bottle. They won't necessarily solve colic or reflux, both of which can have different causes, but reducing the amount of air swallowed during feeding may help with burping and feeding comfort. If symptoms persist or you're concerned, speak to your GP or child and family health nurse.

Are glass baby bottles better than plastic bottles?

Neither is automatically better. Glass bottles don't retain odours or stains and are a great option for parents wanting to reduce their use of plastic, but they tend to be heavier. Plastic bottles are lightweight and convenient for everyday use, while silicone offers another soft and lightweight alternative. Consider where you'll use your bottles, how frequently you'll wash them and which material you prefer handling.

How many baby bottles do I need?

If you're exclusively bottle-feeding, around 4-6 larger bottles plus several teats is a useful starting point, according to Raising Children Network. If you're primarily breastfeeding and only occasionally offering expressed milk, you may need far fewer. Our tip? Don't invest in a huge collection of one bottle before you've established that your baby actually likes it.

How do I know when to change the teat flow?

Age recommendations on teats are a helpful starting point, but babies don't all progress at the same rate. If your baby is struggling to get milk from the bottle, you might need a faster teat. If they seem unable to swallow comfortably or are struggling with the flow, try a slower one. Raising Children Network recommends experimenting with different teat flows if the current one isn't working well.

Do baby bottles need to be sterilised after every use?

In Australia, current guidance recommends cleaning and sterilising bottle-feeding equipment after each feed until your baby is 12 months old. Bottles should first be thoroughly washed in hot, soapy water before being sterilised. Methods include boiling, steam, microwave or an appropriate sterilising solution. Always check the manufacturer's care instructions for your particular bottles and teats.
