Behind The Brand: Little Cloud Lane

Little Cloud Lane’s creative founder Cobi Davies has a simple business philosophy, ‘to create unique and beautiful decor pieces for your little one’. And oh my goodness it works! Here, the tassel and decorative queen explains the dream and inspiration behind Little Cloud Lane.

Your pieces are beautiful! What was the inspiration behind your first product and the subsequent launch of your business?

A love of colour and a passion to create is what led me to start Little Cloud Lane-that and the fact that I hadn't made anything besides beds and snacks for well over a year, being a stay-at-home mum to two kids!

It took me a while to settle on what type of business I wanted have–handmade cards, clothing and items for your little ones, party goods...I even considered opening a family friendly café at one point, but none of those ideas came to fruition.Then one day I made a tassel (after attempting pompoms but I can’t make them to save my life!) and the rest, as they say, is history.

Have you always had a creative background? What was life like before babies and Little Cloud Lane?

I’ve been a keen crafter from a very young age, it is my happy place.I’ve never worked in a creative job but have always loved the creative aspects of my roles (even making a document look pretty!).

Tell us about your collection?

On trend, whimsical pieces for your little one’s room. They are designed and handcrafted by me in Australia using quality materials.If I wouldn’t accept it, why should my customers?

Why do parents/your clients love your designs (and little ones)?

My designs are unique and can be customised to fit in with their athletics and décor.

What was it like launching a business with two young children?

Little Cloud Lane started as a hobby and kind of just grew from there. I don’t get much work done with the kids around so do most of my making at night once they are in bed.

I’ve faced copycats, IP issues and cultural appropriation (I rebranded last year because of this). I find being honest with my customers and followers about what is going on is the best way to help me get over any hurdles that small business life throws at me. Also having a fab group of likeminded business is a great way to bounce ideas off of, gain advice and help spread the word of our growing businesses – simple teamwork!
