Keeping it Real:
Real Stories with
Sarah, Ryan and Liam

At our recent One Fine Baby campaign, we put a call out on Instagram and asked real families to come and be involved in the shoot. This is where we meet the delightful Sarah Marshall and baby Liam (5 months). She also has another son, Ryan, who is 3.

Let’s dive right in. Over to you Sarah!

What was your initial gut reaction when you found out you were pregnant?
With my first pregnancy I had no idea and thought that I had contracted a tummy bug as I was feeling so unwell. Was beyond overjoyed to find out that I was pregnant!

What was the first item you bought for your baby?
A pair of soft bunny shoes.

What was the most unexpected part of your pregnancy?
Learning about the dangers of pre-eclampsia and having to see a nephrologist. I had to learn to monitor my blood pressure levels and to start practising good healthy eating habits.

Did you decide to find out the sex of your baby?
Yes!

Name both the worst and best part of giving birth.
The contractions were excruciating (especially when I was induced). The best part of course was meeting my babies (and seeing the look of horror on my husband’s face when the obstetrician made him cut the cord).

Did you feel like a mum straight away?
Not at all. It was all very surreal and I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.

What is your favourite thing to do with your baby?
Playing with them and seeing the smiles on their faces. I also love making them laugh- it’s so infectious!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received about parenting?
Tire them out in the morning so that they will (hopefully) take a nap at midday.

What’s the one thing you would go back and tell your pregnant self?
To slow down and enjoy the journey of growing a baby.

Describe being a mum in three words.
Tired but happy

Do you have a favourite #MumHack you’d love to share?
Always pack a small bag of toys if you are planning on dining out to keep the kids busy.

What was the best product advice someone gave you either during or after pregnancy?
I’ve recently just learnt this off a mum friend. Lansinoh works wonders for healing dry and red patches of skin. It’s not just for your nipples!
